Cookie Policy

A cookie is a small text file a website stores on your device so it can remember something between page views or visits, such as that you are logged in, which language you prefer, or that you have visited before. Cookies cannot run programmes, carry viruses or read other files on your device.

Everything this site sets itself is first party. The third party services our pages load are Google Fonts, which delivers the typefaces, the Google map on our contact page, and, only when you allow analytics, Google Analytics, which measures how the site is used. Loading any of them tells Google your IP address, and Google’s own frames and scripts are governed by Google’s policies.

Our pages also load the chat window from Zipchat, the service that runs our live chat. Loading it tells Zipchat your IP address, and it keeps a small identifier in your browser so a conversation survives the move from one page to the next.

The site sets a small number of cookies so it can work at all: a session cookie that keeps forms secure and signed in users signed in, and two counter cookies, viewed_properties and faved_properties, which remember which listings your browser has already counted so a refreshed page or a repeated click does not inflate our view and favourite numbers. They identify a browser, not a person, and build no profile.

Because the site cannot work honestly without them, these are set without consent, which the GDPR and ePrivacy rules permit. We list them openly, and they contain no marketing or tracking function.

The chat window stores an identifier of its own for the same practical reason: an answer you are waiting for should still be there when you open another page. We treat it as functional rather than optional, because a chat that forgets you mid sentence is not a chat, and it carries no advertising function; Zipchat sets no marketing cookies for visitors in the EU or the UK without consent. If you would rather not use it, do not open it, and write to hello@ordently.com instead.

One preference cookie exists today: language_preference, which remembers the language you choose so the site can greet you in it next time. It is set only when you actively pick a language, and it stores nothing but the language code.

Your favourites list and your cookie choices themselves live in your browser’s local storage, not in cookies. They stay on your device, and clearing your browser data removes them.

We use Google Analytics 4 to see how the site is used, in aggregate, so we can make it better. It loads only after you allow analytics on the cookie banner or the cookie settings page. Until then nothing is measured, and choosing essential only leaves the site working in exactly the same way.

When you allow it, Google Analytics sets two cookies: _ga and _ga_TBPBWP8WD2, each lasting up to two years. Together they tell repeat visits apart without identifying you by name, and we ask Google to anonymise your IP address. You can withdraw analytics consent at any time on the cookie settings page, which stops Google Analytics loading from your next visit.

We set no marketing cookies. There is no advertising pixel, no retargeting tag and no advertising identifier anywhere on this site.

If we ever wanted to use one, it would be set only with your explicit consent, named individually on this page first, and switchable off at any time with immediate effect.

The cookie settings page lets you record your choice for each optional category, and the choice is saved on the device you make it on. Your browser also offers controls: blocking all cookies, deleting existing ones, or browsing privately.

Consent here is meant to mean something, so we never bundle it, pre tick it or hide the decline button. If we ever add a cookie that changes the picture, we will update this page and ask again before it is set.
